Job Description

Definition of a Working Foreman:

Supervises and works with a small group (normally ranging from 3-10) of journeyman craftsmen, workers at a lower skill level and/or laborers.  Makes work assignments, enforces safety regulations, maintains discipline, orders supplies and equipment, and reviews work of the crew assigned to him during progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions and conformance with accepted trade practices.  The working foreman of journeyman must be skilled in the trade being supervised.  In all cases performs the same type of work as individuals supervised.  The title is derived either from the occupation supervised, e.g., Working Foreman Carpenter, Working Foreman Laborer, or from the operation supervised where different occupations are supervised and none predominates, e.g., Incinerator Working Foreman.

Under general supervision, participates in and supervises the work of a small group of employees engaged in skilled acetylene and/or electric are welding work, and in a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work as needed; and does related work as required.

Example: Participates in and supervises the work of a small group of employees performing a variety of skilled welding work.  Performs and supervises skilled or semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in a variety of trades as assigned.

2 years of experience required in related work. 1 year of supervisory experience required.  Massachusetts Driver's License may be required.  Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
